Thailand/South Korea 2011
From the director of the ONG BACK film franchise comes a more light-hearted (though no less exciting or elaborate) martial arts action flick. Ever since his disappointing loss in the ring twenty years before, Moon (Jae-hyeon Jo, THE ISLE) has rigorously trained his children in Taekwondo despite the misgivings of his wife Yoon (Ji-won Ye), also a Taekwondo champ. Their oldest son Tae Yang (Tae-joo Na) doesn't share his father's dreams of Olympic stardom, preferring instead to enter a dance competition. On his way to a performance for International Taekwondo Day, Tae Yang bumps into Suck Doo (Kwan-hun Lee) but only minutes later realizes that the antique dagger he is carrying is a stolen Thai artifact. He attempts to play the hero and retrieve it, but requires the help of his sister Tae Mi (Kyung-suk Kim) to fight Suck Doo and his bodyguards. Suck Doo, who lost the dagger in the skirmish, goes after Tae Yang's family and kidnaps his youngest sibling. Learning the family's identity through a news broadcast hailing them as national heros, Suck Doo and his team target the family for revenge. The kids are sent into hiding in the countryside with their uncle. Tae Yang must hone his technique in order to defend himself and his family (and to impress his cute cousin [JeeJa Yanin, CHOCOLATE]). |

MVM's
single-layer, anamorphic DVD features a good transfer of this
cleanly shot Red One-lensed, 2K-mastered action flick. The disc
features Korean and English-dubbed Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks (the
English dub track is not the preferred option of course, but
it's surprisingly decent). The optional English subtitles are
error-free. There are no extras other than the film's trailer
and trailers for some other releases. |
