USA 2011
A fine Italian suit (made in China from material produced in India) awaits its destiny, which seems to be as the wedding suit of Bob (Hunter Bodine, STARSHIP TROOPERS) a young carpenter who has finally proposed to girlfriend Jenny (Hayley DuMond, ROOM 101). His mother Polly (Suzi Bodine) is overjoyed as expected; however, her terminally-ill husband Buster (John Bennett Perry, LIPSTICK) is overburdened by a secret from his past, and daughter Stephanie (Shay Astar, THE LOST) has finally decided to reveal that she is going to start living as a man (named "Steve"). Buster's increasingly bizarre behavior, the conflict between Stephanie/Steve, her mother, and born-again Aunt Tootie (a welcome appearance by Candy Clark, THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH), as well as the return of Jenny's alcohol-addicted ex-beauty queen mother Barbara (Robyn Peterson, BLOOD AND WINE) would seem to offer up enough drama for the impending nuptials; but the illegally-imported orchids cousin George's (Charlie Babcock, THE RULES OF ATTRACTION) is storing in Buster's greenhouse threatens to bring the feds down on family homestead (and, inadvertently, expose Buster's family secret). |

Breaking Glass' moderate-bitrate transfer isn't always up to handling fine detail (as evident in the patterns of the suits surrounding "Bob's New Suit" in the opening sequence) but is generally not distracting. Detail in close-ups is fine, although the lesser detail in many of the exteriors seems to be a defect of the original shooting rather than an encoding issue.
The 2.0 track appears to represent the original mix, and the restrained track suits the picture (English closed captions are also included). Extras include three interviews with the director and two of the cast conducted by Michael Silverblatt (who plays the internet radio show host "The Reader" in the film and hosts a like show in real life) as well as the film's trailer and a photo gallery. |
