USA 2012
On her twenty-fifth birthday, the life of struggling actress Amelia (Electra Avellan, GRINDHOUSE) and her struggling producer boyfriend Aaron (co-writer/producer Nicholes Cole, STRIPPED) become entwined with those of cutthroat producer Don Javier (Danny Trejo, MACHETE) and his actress wife Eve (Karin Kelts) who are going through a messy public divorce. Because of his neglect, Amelia refuses to use her studio executive father's (director Robert Rodriguez) influence to advance her career or his birthday check to cover her late rent. Over the course of the day, Amelia blows auditions for a film and a TV commercial - and has a fight with her transsexual neighbor Steve/Shannon (David Lewis) when she gets the part - considers offers to do porn from sleazy neighbor Jacob (Ashley Parker Angel, WILD THINGS: FOURSOME), suspects her boyfriend of cheating with a waitress named Lorelei (Melissa Ordway, IN TIME), and gets vague life lessons from a psychic (Jennifer Tilly, BRIDE OF CHUCKY), a stoner (James Duval, who else?), a drummer (Robert Reins, DRILLER), and seemingly a guardian angel who used to be on THE COSBY SHOW (co-writer/producer Mark Whittington); all of whom seem to be pushing her towards a fateful rooftop party. |

Breaking Glass' barely dual-layer disc sports an attractive, colorful, progressive, anamorphic transfer of this DSLR production. The 5.1 track is quite busy for an indie film with quite a bit of atmospheric surround activity (rather than just the music track and occasional directional sound effects). A 2.0 stereo mix is also included, but it is not mentioned in the menus and must be selected from your remote (and you won't want to bother with it anyway). English closed captions are also included.
The only substantial extra is a three minute selection of deleted scenes which includes a sequence featuring actor Michael Biehn (ALIENS) who appears nowhere else in the film (although he really shouldn't lose any sleep over winding up on the cutting room floor with this scene), as well as a yoga scene featuring a guru named "Spheenktor". |
