WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Hello friends! In the
current environment it is getting
more and more difficult for us to
maintain the website. Our income has
severely been diminished by the
increasing number of DVD/Blu-ray
producers selling discs from their
own sites. At present they don't
offer us affiliate commissions which
are our major source of income
(Amazon, Barnes and Noble etc.). To
continue producing comparisons,
reviews and articles, we
regretfully
request YOUR
assistance in the form of small
monthly donations. We have started a
Patreon page with the hopes that
some of our followers would be
willing to donate to keep DVDBeaver

Leading attorney Shigemori takes on the defense of murder-robbery suspect Misumi who served jail time for another murder 30 years ago. Shigemori's chances of winning the case seem low - his client freely admits his guilt, despite facing the death penalty if he is convicted. As he digs deeper into the case, as he hears the testimonies of the victim s family and Misumi himself, the once confident Shigemori begins to doubt whether his client is the murderer after all. *** Japanese attorney Tomoaki Shigemori (Masaharu Fukuyama) is assigned to defend a criminal named Misumi (Koji Yakusho). Previously convicted of double murder 30 years ago, Misumi is now accused of killing his boss after his release from prison. Though he initially confesses to the charges, his story keeps changing and there are no witnesses, only his ever-changing account of what happened. Shigemori gets drawn into the psychological game Misumi is playing while attempting to defend his client and discover the real story. Written and directed by Hirokazu Koreeda. ~ Katy Miller. |

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.ADDITION: (November 2018) Film Movement - Region 'A' - Blu-ray: The Third Murder is transferred on a dual-layered Blu-ray, with a high bitrate, from Film Movement. The 2-hour feature is in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio, shot on digital, and looks competent if not dynamic. The film has some contemplative shots that looks stable and consistent in 1080P. This Blu-ray presentation offers a very solid transfer of a modern film with fine detail in the occasional close-ups and some minor depth is exported. We may compare to the Arrow Blu-ray one day - but I don't anticipate dramatic differences in the image quality. Film movement present "The Third Murder" with a 24-bit DTS-HD Master 5.1 surround track with the option of a lossy Dolby. There are only minor aggression effects considering the film is a murder thriller. The score by Ludovico Einaudi (The Intouchables) sounds very pleasing subtly sunning beside the film accentuated moods. The Japanese dialogue is easily discernible and there are optional English subtitles on this Region 'A' Blu-ray. Film Movement include a bonus short film: A Gentle Night (Xiao cheng er yue) directed by Qui Yang running just over 1/4 hour about a Mother's frustration with "the system" over her missing 13-year old daughter. Also included is the 1/2 hour 'Making of The Third Murder', some short 'Messages From the Cast' and lastly, a trailer. The Third Murder is a curious investigatory thriller with a courtroom drama segment. It's an excellent, intriguing derivation from Hirokazu Koreeda's usual output. He, predictably, handles the genre expertly and has created a fine, entertaining murder-drama. This Blu-ray is recommended to fans of the director, world cinema or those appreciative of a layered mystery. |
