(aka "Une femme spéciale" or "Le journal érotique d'un bûcheron" or "Erotic Diary of a Lumberjack")

directed by Jean-Marie Pallardy
France 1974

Lusty Nobel Prize winning Professor Muller (Jacques Insermini) flees the city for the countryside where he becomes a pimp called The Lumberjack and opens up an exclusive brothel. His son Jean-Marc (director Jean-Marie Pallardy) disapproves and just happens to fall for Isabelle (Willeke van Ammelrooy) who happens to be a police spy who abruptly switches sides ("Being a cop doesn't stop me from being a woman") when she discovers that the police are only concerned with the operation because it is attracting the top tier of beautiful girls away from Paris. Internal rivalries are resolved with a bit of blackmail, voyeurism, rape, and a scuffle in a muddy quarry and the protagonists must then face off against the police.

EROTIC DAUGHTERS OF EMMANUELLE (aka EROTIC DIARY OF A LUMBERJACK) is one of former model Pallardy's string of seventies and eighties erotic films which are very much in the tradition of French softcore erotica (some hardcore inserts may have been filmed for additional venues given the period in which it was produced). Rather than going the stylish route of Just Jaeckin and the like, Pallardy goes for a fleshier variation on the sex comedy genre but you won't find many laughs here. There's lots of nudity from some French beauties (most of them little vignettes courtesy of Professor Mueller's "elaborate" surveillance set-up) but whatever suspense there is to be had from the police investigation and the seedier aspects of the Lumberjack's pimping are continually scuttled by confused scripting, pacing, bad fight choreography, and inappropriate music.

Comments

The image is anamorphic (the matting is suspect at times) but interlaced and probably analog PAL tape-sourced considering its softness, blooming, contrasts, and ghosting. Audio is hissy but audible.

The trailer for EMMANUELLE 3 should not be confused with the official Sylvia Kristel entry. Rather, like EMMANUELLE GOES TO CANNES (the other trailer), this is another of Pallardy's cash-ins. A competing release under the title EROTIC DIARY OF A LUMBERJACK also features a non-anamorphic but better-looking widescreen (1.66:1) transfer -- going by screencaps -- an hour-long interview with the director and three extended sex scenes.
