(aka "Sesso in Testa" or "Sex in the Head ")
directed by Sergio Ammirata
Italy 1974
Diana (Pilar Velasqeuz) is a university student defending her thesis on prostitution. In order to study it, she became a prostitute and explains her experiences to an alternately outraged and excited panel including 2 women and a priest. In a series of vignettes, Diana relates encounters with lesbians, lunatics, a politician with a trigger-happy wife, an industrialist, and a gay waiter among others. Diana helps a businessman diagnose that his son can only get aroused by women in mens clothing so he hires masculine-looking secretaries but it works too well and his son gets all of the secretaries pregnant. Diana also has encounters with a man whose recently deceased wife is still lying in state in the house's parlor and a man who role plays as her father outraged to discover his daughter is a prostitute. The panel is stupefied but Diana isn't too worried about whether she receives her thesis or not because she's learned a job. Although shot in 1974, the film sort of has a 60's look about it. The comedy is very broad and only intermittently funny (when Diana relates the story of a prostitute who dressed as a nun for her clients, she tells the panel that the woman was very successful until she was arrested, to which one of the panel replies "So she became a cloistered nun") but there is plenty of nudity (though the sex scenes themselves are brief and lacking in mid-70's explicitness). |

The progressive image is letterboxed but not anamorphically enhanced (the Italian DVD was also reportedly 4:3 letterbox). The subtitles are sometimes carelessly translated ("bitch" is often used where "whore" would be more appropriate in referring to the character's profession as a prostitute in a derogatory manner) and have plenty of typos ("paid" is always spelled as "paied", "furniture" as "forniture", and "length" as "lenght" among others) suggesting that the subtitles were not proofed. It does not ruin one's appreciation of the film but it does seem careless. There are no extras. |
