(aka "Sonny & Chér in Good Times" or "I Got You, Babe")
Directed by William Friedkin
USA 1967
In their one-and-only onscreen pairing, singing duo and television stars Sonny and Cher star in this happy, affectionate and lovably surreal film about - who else? - Sonny and Cher! An impressive feature directorial debut by legendary filmmaker William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The Boys in the Band, The French Connection), Good Times is good, great and downright groovy! Husband-and-wife singers Sonny and Cher couldn't be hotter - they even have an offer to star in a movie. Trouble is, Cher doesn't want to do it and the script stinks. Now Sonny has ten days to write a new script. He has great ideas - he could be a cowboy, the king of the jungle or a private eye. But he still has to convince his dynamite babe to sing the same tune! *** Pop singers Sonny and Cher are featured in this fluffy film that chronicles the popular duo's ideas for the film in which they are to make their cinematic debut. Much of the story centers around Sonny's movie fantasies as he tries to convince the studio head to use a more interesting script than the one he wants to present. Songs include: "I Got You Babe," "It's The Little Things," "Good Times," "Trust Me," "Don't Talk To Strangers," "I'm Gonna Love You" and "Just A Name." Excerpt from B+N located HERE |

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.
Kino Lorber present Sonny & Cher in Good Times on
Blu-ray. This disc comes
from a brand new HD Master from a 4K scan of the original camera
negative. The 1.78:1 HD 1080p image is housed on a single-layered
Blu-ray with a supportive bitrate. This is a fine transfer, with the
wild colors and styles of the late 60s in full view. Those colors look
lifelike and not muted at all. The level of detail is impressive too,
with a very fine grain giving the film a nice texture. There are
occasional damage marks, though they are few and far between. Contrast
levels are strong too, a fine 4k transfer that I'm sure director William
Friedkin would approve of, wait, did I mention this film is directed by
Friedkin? |
