Directed by Michael Dugan
USA 1983

The Nomed Family has been the victim of an ancient curse in which the first born daughter of each generation has gone violently mad and then suspiciously dies. No one can explain the Nomed madness, but some say it’s because of the possession of a terrible demonic force. By way of an unnatural urge during her Mother’s funeral, Susan entered her family’s mausoleum, and ever since an evil presence has been lurking inside of her, waiting for a chance to come out. Now an adult, something is hiding inside Susan’s body, coming out to grotesquely murder anyone who comes too close to uncovering her terrifying secret.

Comments:

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

Vinegar Syndrome have released Michael Dugan's 1983 film, Mausoleum. The dual-layered Blu-ray presents the 1.85:1 image with a maxed out bitrate and is described as "Newly scanned and restored in 4k from its 35mm original camera negative". Detail levels are very impressive, especially in close-up shots. Colors look very strong, with creepy looking greens and bloody reds. Contrast levels are decent. Another nice transfer from the folks at Vinegar Syndrome.

The film is transferred in its original 1.0 mono track. This 24-bit DTS-HD Master Audio has a buoyant depth, even in mono. The score from Jaime Mendoza-Nava (A Boy and His Dog, The Town That Dreaded Sundown) is appropriately spooky sounding. There are optional English subtitles on this Region Free
Blu-ray.

Vinegar Syndrome have only provided TV Spots and a gallery plus a cool 9-minute extra with John Carl Buechler. The special effects makeup master is shown talking about his work on Mausoleum as we see it in split-screen. Also included is the film's trailer.

Mausoleum is a good time, and Vinegar Syndrome have given this film a second life. Though light on extras, I would recommend this film to any genre fan.
