(aka 'The Outpost" or "Mind Ripper" or "The Hills Have Eyes III: Mindripper" or "Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes 3" or "Wes Craven's The Mindripper" or "Hills Have Eyes Part 3" or "Mind Ripper")
Directed by Joe Gayton
USA
1995
The late great Wes Craven (SCREAM) planned to produce the third in his classic THE HILLS HAVE EYES franchise and let his son Jonathan take the directorial reigns but a last minute title change gave us MIND RIPPER instead of THE HILLS HAVE EYES PART 3!! Starring the legendary Lance Henriksen (ALIENS) as a scientist who accidentally resurrects a fully blown brain-hungry cannibal during some re-animation experiments, 1995's MIND RIPPER is a more supernatural slant on the slasher formula than the demented desert terror of THE HILLS HAVE EYES. Even so, fans of slice and dice delirium can expect plenty of stalking, suspense and splatter theatrics in this all-time classic of video rental violence, now finally unleashed in HD from 88 Films! |

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.
888 Films present "Mind Ripper" in an HD-transfer
from the film's original negative. The film is housed on
a dual-layered
Blu-ray
and has a high bitrate. Though the transfer is mostly
free of debris and scratches, the original shots were
sometimes somewhat unfocused or blurry, possibly due to
the stock that the film was shot on, or perhaps a choice
of the filmmakers. Detail is good, though not great.
Colors and contras seems fine as fleshtones look
appropriate and the gory scenes look red and bloody, as
they should. Though not a breathtaking transfer, one can
assume that this is as good as this film is going to
look on digital, for the time being. - Colin Zavitz |
