(aka "Emmanuelle 3")

Directed by François Leterrier
France 1977

Her name evokes visions of lush sensual discovery and the extremes of forbidden ecstasy! As Emmanuelle (Sylvia Kristel, Lady Chatterley’s Lover) and her husband Jean (Umberto Orsini, La Tosca) continue their amoral lifestyle, living out their erotic fantasies under the sun of the Seychelles, the arrival of a film director (Jean-Pierre Bouvier) disturbs their peaceful existence. When she falls in love with the handsome filmmaker, Jean feels jealousy for the first time in his life. This explosive and daring final chapter to the smash-hit trilogy was directed by François Leterrier (Le garde du corps), co-stars Alexandra Stewart (The Destructors) and boasts a steamy soundtrack by Serge Gainsbourg (Je t'aime moi non plus).

***

Part of the Emmanuelle series, this erotic film follows the adventures of Emmanuelle (Sylvia Kristel) as she and her husband engage in a myriad of extra-marital affairs. Their arrangement seems to work out fine, until Emmanuelle's pursuit of a seemingly uninterested film director sparks her husband's jealous.

Comments:

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

Kino Lorber bring us the third movie in the seemingly endless Emmanuelle series, 1977's "Goodbye Emmanuelle". Not unlike "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" (the fourth film in the never-ending saga of camp counselors being slaughtered), this title is misleading. For just like Jason Voorhees, Emmanuelle will never be stopped. Kino present the 2.35:1 HD image with a supportive bitrate while housing the film on a single-layered Blu-ray disc. That widescreen scope is used to show some breathtaking vistas (when not showing adult-related activity). There is a waxiness and flatness to the image quality that looks video-like, not necessarily the fault of transfer digitization. This entry is much glossier than the first two Emmanuelle films. Colors look appropriately deep and varied, with the lush foliage and tropical waters showing a wide spectrum of greens and blues. There is also a pleasant amount of variations within the black levels, in some cases showcasing some impressively deep blacks.

Much like Kino's other two Emmanuelle releases, they provide the option of either a French or English 2.0 16-bit DTS-HD Master audio track. Barring some unforeseen future uncompressed lossless release, this track will have to suffice. The dialogue is discernable and the score sounds unremarkable. Serge Gainsbourg provides the title song "Goodbye Emmanuelle". There are optional English subtitles on this Region 'A'
Blu-ray.

"The Joys of Emmanuelle - Part 3" is the third excerpt from the anchor bay documentary that appeared on older DVD incarnations. Aside from this 9-minute excerpt, we also get 4 radio spots, 2 trailers for the film, and trailers for "Emmanuelle" and "Emmanuelle 2".

"Goodbye Emmanuelle" is a so-bad-it's-good time, with soft-core lovemaking amidst the beautiful Seychelles islands landscape. This transfer is what it is. Recommended to fans of the 'Emmanuelle' series.
