(aka "Ruang talok 69" or "A Funny Story About 6 and 9" or "6ixtynin9")
directed
by Pen-Ek Ratanaruang
Thailand 1999
Another glib, Tarantinoesque take on violence and coincidence. It's stylish, very well photographed, and has a few moments that are almost funny, but you've seen this done many time before over the last decade. It's not very entertaining from Tarantino himself, and this imitator fares no better.

Comments | There are
alternating light and dark vertical bands that plague the image throughout
the film, most noticeably against a solid background, as in the fourth
screenshot. Edge enhancement is quite prominent and serves to soften the
image. The picture also suffers a hint of chroma and looks altogether too
digital. It certainly isn't horrible, but a transfer of such a recent film
should look better than this. The English subtitles are legible, but contain frequent typographical errors. |
