Comments | This is a poor DVD. Many would say it is typical of Alliance. The aspect ratio looks correct, and since part of this film revolves around the making of Alfred Hitchcock's "I Confess", I would imagine that shooting in Academy Ratio was a bit of a reference to that film. The picture quality isn't too great, however. There's tons of edge enhancement (something I usually don't notice), and lots of digital artifacts and pixilation. The darker scenes really reveal the limitations, as there it almost looks like the colors are moving around and blending in to one another. The outdoor (and brightly colored) scenes fare a bit better. I am kind of disappointed with this release, as it's a Canadian film, you'd think it'd have a better Canadian DVD. As far as I know, the only other DVD of this film in existence is in Australia, but I couldn't find any reviews and it looks to be out of print. If you're a fan of the film, either rent it try to find this one used, as the $30+ retail price is total robbery! |
