(aka "Ingmar Bergman - 3 documentaries about film, theatre, Fårö and life by Marie Nyreröd" or "Bergman Complete")

directed by Marie Nyreröd
Sweden 2004

This is a three-part documentary series made by Swedish Televisions journalist Marie Nyreröd. Bergman-fans might know her from the Bergman film-introductions that's included on the bonus-disc of Criterions Fanny & Alexander (they were made for a Bergman retrospect on Swedish Television back in 2003 and is also on the Swedish DVDs). I had the pleasure to meet her this year in february when she had a thing called Bakom Bergman ("Behind Bergman" in English) at the Gothenburg International Film Festival. It was a screening of Bergman's own behind the scenes footage to a bunch of movies shoot on 8 or 16mm, narrated by Nyreröd. Some of this footage is also included in this documentaries (see large cap 3 below).

The first part is about Bergman as most of y'all probably know him, as a film director. It starts with the movie Hets (eng. Torment), the first screenplay that he ever got filmed (directed by Alf Sjöberg). And goes through his major works.

The second part is about Bergman as a theater-director. Bergman din over 100 productions for the stage and we get clips from alot of them here. This part also features some of his TV-films and TV-plays.

Third part is about Bergman's life, and especially his love for "Fårö" where he lived since the 60s.

These movies is a must see for all fans of Ingmar Bergman.

Comments There are no extras but both the image and the sound are very acceptable, including English optional subtitles, so if you like Bergman there is no reason not to indulge.
