Unlike the overwhelming majority of films about the war in the former Yugoslavia, "Life Is a Miracle" (Kad je zivot bio cudo) teems with character, passion and humor. Kusturica’s film is a swirling, eerily ambivalent paean to the unyielding optimism of those who refuse to relinquish their individuality and succumb to the dehumanizing and ultimately superficial sense of patriotic duty.

colors are very saturated and the overall image is beautiful, some scenes
have very visible edge enhancements, yet others display none. It seems the
brighter and more vivid in colors the image is to begin with (for
instance image #3) the more visible artifacts. Disc 2 begins with the portrait Kusturica of by Marie-Christine Malbert, "Emir Kusturica, tendre barbare", made for French TV in 2004, dividing its time between interviews, clips from earlier films, the production of this film and talks and clips with Kusturica. It is in English and subtitled when non-English. Next is a brief Making Of documentary, which most of all looks like B-roll footage, the trailer and a brief text biography. |
