The nerd Adam and the jerk Harley are two friends, who are on their way to a wedding. On the way, they pick up a sexy hitchhiker, Sarah. But driving thru hillbilly redneck country, they suddenly are stalked by the biggest and baddest monster truck, and suddenly their lives become living hell.

To be honest, the hell with the plot. Basically its “Jeepers Creepers” meets “Wrong Turn” meets “The Duel” meets “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” meets “Dead Alive” meets… take your pick of redneck horror. Nuff said.

What matters is, that its damn funny (in a stupid kind of way) and damn bloody and damn gory. “Monster Man” is a true midnight movie, a modern b-movie, a classic, which just gets better and better with each viewing. Where horror has a tendency to take itself too serious, “Monster Man” does the exact opposite. So leave your brain in the jar, get a six pack and get ready to have fun with horror.

Comments The frame differs from the 1.85:1 OAR, but if it has been opened or cropped, I cannot say.

There are some edge enhancements and color banding, but all in all, the image looks great. Deep strong colors, blood and gore looks great and the sundry color palette is maintained. It just looks great.

Besides a decent 2.0 Dolby Digital track, there is one great 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS track. The surround tracks are very aggressive, the .1 really kicks in, when the monster truck roars. Pretty impressive sound for a low budget flick.

A good little "Making of" featurette, a gag real and trailers make up the extras. A shame Tartan couldn't get the audio commentary which is on the R1 DVD from Lions Gate.
