After having spend ten years in prison for the murder of the boss of a rival gang, Tachibana (Ryo Ishibashi) is released and greeted back into his old gang. But things have changed. The gang has made truce with rival gangs and gone legit, which made his hit pointless, and Tachibana himself has also changed, as he is consumed by the guilt of having shot an innocent woman during the hit.

Based upon the novel by Yukio Yamanouchi, “Another Lonely Hitman” is the first thematically part of Mochizuki hitman tale, which he continues in “Onibi – The Fire Within”, where he portraits the oldschool hitman, who after being separated from the outside world by serving time, becomes alienated by the new yakuza.

An above average image from ArtsMagic. When close, details are good, but elements in total compositions are very unsharp and display edge enhancements.

The DVD comes with two great extras. The first is the audio commentary by Tom Mes, who as usual goes into great details with references and background. The second is an exclusive interview with Mochizuki, where he talks about how he became a director, about the film and related topics.

Despite the poor picture, this is a most welcomed DVD, not only making the film available, but also adding solid background information on the film and Mochizuki.
