(aka "Good Morning, Night" or "Buongiorno, notte" )
directed by Marco Bellocchio
Italy 2003
"Good Morning, Night" is based upon the real event of
the kidnapping of Italy's former prime minister Aldo Moro in 1978, and
portraits the members of the Red Brigades, the reason behind their actions
and how their emotional struggles parallel the escalading national crisis,
as one of the members begins to question the cause. |

While the night sequences are flawless and
so very beautiful in their soft composition, the day sequences suffers
from edge enhancements and colours are very faded. The frame also appears to have been slightly cropped from its OAR of 1.85:1. The documentary "Same Rage, Same Spring" is a portrait of Bellocchio, where he talks about his films, his motifs and how he made "Good Morning, Night". A very insightful piece of extra material. |
