ADDITION: RAN - Region 'A' - Blu-ray - June 12': Remains such a warm comedy and the 1080P definitely ratchets-up both audio and video at somewhere under 6X the bitrate. I've seen Small Time Crooks about a 1/2 dozen times and love the performances - especially Tracey Ullman. We get a shade more information in the frame but I don't suppose the jokes benefit. Anyway, I liked the bare bones disc presentation. Perhaps it was the Woody-esque soundtrack with Benny Goodman, Harry James and Johann Straus via lossless. There is nothing but an SD, Japanese, trailer for the film. I suspect only the director's loyal fans might be keen enough to go Blu-ray on this title. I like it in the library.

ON THE DVDs: Both images are quite good with some minor and visible edge enhancement, but we give a slight edge in the Region 1 brightness. the PAL edition has an Allen interview which would have been great on the NTSC that has nothing but filler. No significant cropping and I would choose whichever is most reasonably priced. Overall I would take the PAL edition which, for me, has the interview which exceeds the value of the negligible image difference. The region 1 menus are fun and animated.
