Comments

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

ADDITION: Potemkine Films - Region 'B' - Blu-ray (December 2013): I have already stated- I now own the Coffret Rohmer intégral combo blu ray + livret + pochette photos [Blu-ray] - it is 25 Rohmer films and 52 discs, book and more! So it will take a while to go through. My take so far is very positive. I will continue and, hopefully, at one point do a page on the entire set including the bonus discs (although extras don't seem to be English-friendly the features I have checked so far have optional English subtitles).! So it will take a while to go through. My take so far is very positive. I will continue and, hopefully, at one point do a page on the entire set including the bonus discs.

Another 1080i/50 Blu-ray disc from Potemkine that drastically passes all the previous DVDs. The matching screen captures show the clarity and better color separation - it's brighter, has more information in the 1.33:1 frame and even shows some depth. Audio is lossless in original mono and thee are optional English subtitles. Extras include two more French-only video pieces - an interview with André Dussollier and a 'part one' hour long piece on Rohmer. I think the 'Comedies and Proverbs' are my favorite Rohmers and this adds another notch in value for picking up the set.

***

ADDITION: (Gaumont captures) - The Arrow Films image looks like a direct port from the G.C.T.H.V. - with the inclusion of English subs. I think the G.C.T.H.V. may be slightly sharper. I do see some cropping in the Arrow Films now. Most of this is moot for many - as the G.C.T.H.V. has no English subs.

Fox-Lorber have masked their PAL-NTSC "ghosting" very well in their early discs- it is apparent that their NTSC DVD has it, but it is exposed very minimally. Certainly I have seen worse examples. Regardless, the Arrow Films is far superior in every category, with better contrast and sharpness. The Fox has non-removable subs and pitiful Extras. The Arrow Films has a short of Rohmer discussing the film and a trailer. Go with the new Arrow Films ! I'm placing my order today !
