(aka "Full Moon In Paris")
France - 1984
This 1984 Eric Rohmer Comedies & Proverbs feature is about a young woman who doesn’t realize that she doesn’t know what she wants. While plot turns are guessable, you never really know what is going to happen to the characters. The heroine lives with her boyfriend in a suburb outside of Paris, but she also maintains an apartment by herself in the city and spends a lot of time there alone. As the film advances, she and her boyfriend become more and more distant from one another, but neither is ready to acknowledge it until something happens that forces their hands. As with all of Rohmer’s films, the characters are vividly drawn and superbly performed, so to be in their company is an extreme pleasure despite their emotional ups and downs.

| Comments | Looks like both come from the same print, so they have similar sharpness. The Fox has been artificially brightened and was taken from a PAL source (see times) and of course has burned in subtitles. The Fox is cropped a little on the right edge and on the bottom. The Arrow Films has good film grain and superior Extras and is the overall winner. | |
