Directed by John Huston
USA 1964
A companion piece to Huston's Wise Blood, The Night of the Iguana has disgraced clergyman Burton turned traveling courier, accompanying a group of women teachers across Mexico. They are pursued in turn by a young sexpot (Lyon), the middle-aged owner of a hotel (Gardner) and an artist (Kerr), all of which leads to moral and mental turmoil in the trademark style of Tennessee Williams, on whose play this is based. Huston always had a sensitive hand in adapting great literary works (The Dead, Under the Volcano) and this is no exception, successfully bringing Williams' writing to the screen while effortlessly adding the Huston touch.

Comments: |
This image may be the best in the entire Tennessee Williams Boxset. Detail is very sharp with strong grey-tones. Like the other releases it is tight to the frame edges, anamorphic and HD transferred. This looks fabulous and all features (optional subtitles, audio and supplements including 2 featurettes) are at Warner's lofty standards. Typical of most films in the Tennessee Williams boxset - focus shifts to the strong performances with some exceptional timing and delivery. This was a much anticipated film to own on DVD. |
