Directed by Dirk Campbell
UK 1990

When a Satanist biker is killed by a gang of Hells Angels, an evil spirit he was summoning possesses his old Norton Commando motorcycle. So, when unsuspecting local courier Nick "Noddy" Oddie (Neil Morrissey, TV’s Men Behaving Badly) becomes the bike's new owner, little does he know that it runs on blood and has a habit for killing Hells Angels and anyone else who gets in its way. Veteran British TV director Dirk Campbell (In the Night Garden…) made his feature film directorial debut with this cult classic which co-stars Michael Elphick (The Element of Crime), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO of the Star Wars franchise) and Burt Kwouk (Cato Fong of The Pink Panther films).

***

Bad taste slasher-movies never had it so good. In this horror/comedy movie, the film's hero purchases an antique motorcycle. Somehow, the bike gets a taste for blood, and behaves in every respect just like a traditional vampire (shunning crucifixes, etc.). It also has a taste for human and animal flesh, and is given to dismembering its victims.

Comments:

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

Kino Lorber have released "I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle". This 1990 cult comedy is released on a single-layered Blu-ray with a supportive bitrate cited as being from a "Brand New 4K Restoration". The image detail is a little soft but in well lit scenes, a certain amount of detail can be seen. Contrast levels could be better, with certain scenes being washed out in uniform blacks, with little nuance. Colors are somewhat effected here by the lack of a varied contrast, but not too drastically. Grain is well textured, especially in certain scenes.

"...Motorcycle" is presented with a 2.0 DTS-HD track in 16-bit. The dialogue is clearly audible and the music sounds terrific. The music was composed by the singer-songwriter Dean Friedman (Boon). There are optional English subtitles on this Region A
Blu-ray

Kino Lorber have included some valued extras on this
Blu-ray release, starting with a fantastic commentary with director Dirk Campbell, writers John Wolskel & Mycal Miller and actor Alan Frank. As if that wasn't enough, there is also a 40-minute making-of documentary and a 4-minute follow-up on where the infamous motorcycle now lays. There is a quite humorous 3-minute featurette "Where are They Now" with John Wolskel. Also included is the film's trailer in HD, as well as trailers for Rawhead Rex and Night Angel. There is reversible art for this Blu-ray release.

"I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle" is a lot more fun than you might think. The film has a questionable sense of humor (there is a scene with a talking turd for example). The Kino
Blu-ray has a fair transfer, but the film is worth watching (and re-watching) if you are in the right mood. The commentary and documentary are a welcome addition here as well.
