(aka "Mer eller mindre mann" )
directed by Martin Lund
Norway 2012
With a child on the way, it is time for thirty-five-year-old Henrik (Henrik Rafaelsen, BLIND) to grow up. Cohabiting a sterile prefab house with girlfriend Tone (Janne Heltberg, VIKTORIA) and starting a buttoned down corporate job - or a "homo job" as his gay chicken-playing friends refer to it - Henrik awkwardness with domesticity and inability to fit in at work express themselves in unpredictable ways. At a party thrown by Tone for her publishing industry coworkers, Henrik makes her friends uncomfortable before retreating to the back seat of a guest's car and accidentally urinating in it. After an argument with Tone, Henrik winds up at a wild party, makes out with easy friend Mia (Solvei Grimen Fosse), and embarrasses himself further by drunkenly punching out a neighbor complaining about the noise who turns out to be one of his coworkers. The more he tries to conform and grow up, the more he alienates his old friends, his coworkers, and his girlfriend's mature friends. Far from a raunchy comedy despite some sexual humor, drinking, and vulgarity, the sketchy film is instead a somewhat moving examination of processes of late maturation that Henrik is frustratingly unable to vocalize to his increasingly frustrated girlfriend. |

Comments |
Big World Pictures' single-layer DVD provides a serviceable progressive, anamorphic mid-range bitrate encode but only Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo audio (although I am uncertain as to whether this was a 5.1 film). The burnt-in English subtitles contain no obvious errors. Extras are restricted to the film's trailer and previews for other titles. |
