(aka "Barash" )

directed by Michal Vinik
Israel 2016

Israeli teenager Naama (Sivan Noam Shimon) is no good girl. Fussed at by her mother Michel (Irit Pashtan) and nitpicked by her bullying father Gidon (Dvir Benedek, BIG BAD WOLVES), Naama and her mousey set of friends seek the same kind of escapism of the popular kids in drugs, alcohol, and partying. When Naama meets new beguiling girl Dana (Hadas Jade Sakori), love at first sight quickly becomes all-consuming, providing an escape from the pressures of increasingly dysfunctional family life when older sister Liora (Bar Ben Vakil) not only goes AWOL but also runs off with an Arab boy, but also neglecting her other friendships (although her two childhood friends are more annoyed that she and Dana are not sharing the Xtasy tablets than not spending enough time with them). As the lust fades and disillusionment sets in, Naama comes to realize that some of the things that once seemed intolerable are also the comforting constants in life.

Comments

Film Movement provides a good mid-range bitrate progressive, anamorphic encode of this film, the color palette of which is pushed towards the warm with sunny exteriors looking deliberately washed out. The setup menu only features an option to turn the English subtitles on or off but there are actually two duplicate stereo tracks to toggle between (as was the case with the label's DVD of I AM YOURS). The only extras are the film's trailer, a short film, and previews for six other releases.
