(aka "The Road to Frisco")

USA 1940

The story of the Fabrini brothers, Joe and Paul, played by George Raft and Humphrey Bogart. They decide to enter the trucking business after being slaves to it for many years. They know everyone in the business and find initial success, but an sleeping at the wheel leaves Paul armless. Brother Joe has eyes for truck stop waitress Cassie (Ann Sheridan) but the bosses wife, Lana ( Ida Lupino) is giving the unrequited bedroom nod in Joe direction. This film buffs feel good picture drifts from comedy/ romance to courtroom drama with murder as the charge.  Director Raoul Walsh was known for his knack for not pigeon-holing his films genre. This movie shows itself as a hidden classic with Bogie still as a bit player and Lupino stealing the show.

I was very impressed with the image quality of this DVD. Excellent contrast and some good film grain peeking through. The Extras are also quite interesting... I loved the "Swingtime in the Movies" supplement. I don't know what anyone would want as more from this DVD unless its a commentary.
