directed by Louis
Malle
France / Italy 1965
Director Louis Malle and co-writer Jean-Claude Carriere satirizes everything from American westerns to revolutions, dictators, the Church, priesthood and even sex itself! When two women – both named Maria – unwittingly invent the striptease circa 1910, they become such a hit that enthusiastic audiences strip along with them! But when one of the Marias falls for a handsome revolutionary (George Hamilton), she finds that she has unwittingly embroiled the two of them in an armed peasant revolt!

A little better
than average fare from lackluster MGM.
Sharpness is not
bad, skin tones seem a trifle red, contrast is acceptable. Original
audio and pleasant subtitles make for a decent buy at around $12. Quite
an interesting film, if the comedy is somewhat dated. Yes, we endorse as
a decent buy. Many will love the Brigitte Bardot and Jeanne Moreau
team-up.
