(aka "Sex Crimes" or "wildthings")

directed by John McNaughton
USA 1998

I have always had a thing for Florida locale films. The heat, the palm trees and the almost painfully bright sunlight are all attractive. Couple this natural beauty with Denise Richards in some steamy sex scenes and an almost noir-like feel to the film, and "Wild Things" is an enjoyable, if superficial, ride. This film is not steeped in depth, but the combination of sex and deception prove worthy of 2 hours of relaxing time spent. As long as you are not expecting too much, I am sure you will get something out of it.out of

Comments:

The new unrated version, aside from a few added, yet unnecessary titillation scenes, has superior contrast than the initial Region 1 release. The increased value is only slight and not worthy of an upgrade in my opinion.

Both are from HD sourced tape and both images appear un-cropped. They are both dark at times and aside from the audio DUB addition of Japanese (and Japanese subtitles), obvious to pursue sales in that market, there are less extras features as they have removed the director commentary available in the original release. Okay you see a bit more of Denise Richards breasts, but you have to deicide yourself whether this is worth replacing a commentary track. I don't think so. Ohh yeah - anamorphic menus too.
