Slaughter’s men. Using his powerhouse kung fu skills, Wong vows to clean up the
streets and take down Slaughter once and for all! *** A Chinese-American cop, skilled in martial arts, battles the most powerful criminal gang in San Francisco that is responsible for the death of his partner. |

On their
Blu-ray,
Eureka use linear PCM mono tracks (24-bit) in the
original English for Slaughter in San Francisco"
and the Mandarin language in "Yellow-Faced Tiger". Both
films have many fight sequences with board-cracking whiplash effects
throughout. The audio is authentically hollow without much bass. The
score was by Joseph Koo (The
Skyhawk,
Lady
Whirlwind,
Fist
of Fury,
The Way of the Dragon) sounding clean and supportive in
the lossless transfer. Eureka offer optional English subtitles on their
Region 'B'
Blu-ray.
The Eureka Classics
Blu-ray
offers two new commentary tracks; on the
Hong Kong theatrical version by Asian film expert Frank Djeng (NY
Asian Film Festival) who did the commentaries on Mr. Vampire II
and Vampire vs. Vampire in Eureka's
Hopping Mad
boxset - with Michael Worth who always adds important value as someone
working in the industry. They are a good pairing and the commentary is
enjoyable and worth the indulgence for fans.
We have heard Djeng's
expertise on commentates for Eureka's
Blu-rays
of
Magic Cop,
Angela Mao: Hapkido & Lady Whirlwind,
Knockabout,
The Shaolin Plot and
Dreadnaught. There is
also a commentary on the US Export version by action cinema experts Mike Leeder (editor of
100% Jackie Chan: The Essential Companion) & Arne Venema.
We have heard Leeder and Venema via
excellent commentaries on Eureka's
Blu-rays
of
The Skyhawk,
Odd Couple and
The Shaolin Plot - plus 88 Films
Blu-rays
of
The Fearless Hyena,
Dragon's Forever plus Vinegar Syndrome's
Righting Wrongs. I haven't fully listened but they always seem
competent, fun and complete venturing to tangential films in the genre,
the actors and overall details of the productions as well as diverse
film culture comparisons to the West. There are an hour's worth of other
extras; Karate Cowboy Talking Chuck with
Leeder and Venema talking about the career of Chuck Norris. Return to
Slaughter with Golden Harvest Producer Andre Morgan. He was the
driving force in the creation of "Hweilai Studios" in Shanghai – the
first private sector studio in China, opened in 2001. Hweilai produced
not only Chinese content, but also English-language movies and
television. Also included are both US and original Hong Kong trailers
The package has a limited edition O-Card slipcase featuring new artwork
by Sam Gilbey and an LE collector’s booklet featuring new writing by
James Oliver.
Wei Lo's "Slaughter in San Francisco"
and almost 20-minute longer "Yellow-Faced Tiger"
have the appeal of an early Chuck Norris acting credit. He plays the
most formidable drug kingpin (aka "Slaughter") in San Francisco. Wong
Tao is the former cop who has forgone guns, and challenges Chuck
Slaughter while avenging the goons who murdered his ex-partner (played by
Robert Jones.) Low budget and fairly weak there is an unusual, awkward
and
nostalgic appeal to "Slaughter in San Francisco". It can be both
over-the-top and restrained - Norris exposes his charismatic star
magnetism. Cheesy but good. The Eureka Blu-ray
