The 2025 Film Movement
Blu-ray
of The Marquise of O... is compared
HERE The Gaumont comes in a Boxset with 5 other Rohmer films. None have English subtitles. According to our bitrate charts - the Fox looks to be taken from an HD Tape while the Region 2 is not. Of course the biggest factor involved is (again!) that Fox has not properly converted to NTSC leaving the inherent problems (ghosting, artifacts etc. ). The Gaumont is sharper and brighter, but skin tones look a little redder. Neither image shows any cropping in comparison to each other. It's a shame that the Gaumont's subtitles are superior as they don't offer English as an option. The English subs are non-removable on the Fox / Lorber. We suspect that Arrow Films will port and offer an English option very soon. The Gaumont's meager trailer is better than Fox's static text screens when it comes to extras, but the Gaumont also offers a whole 2nd disc of Rohmer's TV production "Catherine de Heilbronn" - a wonderful bonus. |
