"Seven Days in May" Warner

I was recommend this film by someone who had surfed to the Top 100 DVDs list and emailed it as a suggestion (I suppose intuitively figuring that I would like it by looking at what my preferences were). And yes, I did like it very much, in fact I enjoyed it more than I did Manchurian Candidate and it comes pretty close to Fail-Safe, which is indeed high praise. Certainly "Seven Days in May" is one of the best cold-war films ever made. Frankenheimer's balanced foray is unique and defines his style so adeptly. I have always loved Frederic March, Burt Lancaster and enjoy Kirk Douglas in most things as long as his machismo is in check. They are all excellent in this film. I most appreciated how the moral undertone was kept hidden until the end. Political leanings were given equal time with intelligent dialogue and delivered with articulate precision. Because the film is so intriguing and maintains its high level the finale is almost anti-climatic. Still if you have not seen this film- you must!.out of

Comments:	This is an excellent DVD. Good soft contrast, tight anamorphic image with no visible digital manipulation. Audio is consistent and strong. Extras are weak save for the Frankenheimer commentary, which is fascinating. This is a DVD that I will revisit often. the only flaw is the silly snapper case box, which is really being picky. out of Gary W. Tooze
