Comments:

Notice that the reviewed DVD is the PAL version, there is also a NTSC version from RusCico and there may be slight differences (as in Solaris).

The picture quality goes a bit up and down but the overall quality is good. The filmmakers had only a limited amount of colour film (some of the movie is shot in black and white) - that could be the reason why the colours sometimes looks very good with a nice balance and the fleshtones at other times seems a little faded. There is quite a lot of white speckles (see capture 5) and grain, I didn't notice any edge enhancement.

Like some of the other old RusCiCo releases the only audio choice is a new 5.1 soundtracks remix from the mono track. This is very strange remix, as there is no sound in the in right rear and only sometimes in the left with fluctuating volume levels. It can be  very annoying, but after turning the rear speakers off it sounded immensely better. I didn't listen to the English/French dub. The subtitles are easy to read and have a good font and size. I didn't notice any spelling or grammatical errors on the English. It is wonderful that RusCico offers a lot of subtitle options but notice that they aren't removable with the Russian soundtrack to adhere to the copyright issue for there home country.     out of .
