We have a real problem in this world and it bothers me that as it has lessoned its prevalence in our culture we simply decide to ignore its global importance. Every 10 seconds someone dies of AIDS. By the time you have read these first three sentences some else will have died. I have attempted to immerse myself in the causes and preventions of this retro-virus and have documented some of my findings in a PowerPoint presentation HERE.

Throwing around random and excessive figures like: " ten years 1 billion people will have HIV" seems too easy for us to dismiss. The DVD "Pandemic: Facing AIDS" puts a human face on this catastrophe with 5 individual stories across the globe (India, Russia, Brazil, Thailand and Uganda). In particular I was deeply touched by a young Thai girl and her circumstances around contracting the disease, how it changed the relationship with her family and her eventual death are all documented. It was heartbreaking to witness. In fact all 5 stories, narrated by Danny Glover, were gut-wrenching. This documentary is masterfully done and should be mandatory viewing by... everyone who lives on the planet earth.   out of

This is a good DVD. The image quality and other attributes are all secondary to the important information that is disseminated in the documentary. The picture quality is fine as is the sound. Colors are bright. I would have liked optional subtitles through the entire film, but it is not offered. There are some good resource Extras and of course it displays the sponsors. I wouldn't hesitate... just pick this DVD up today.  out of        Gary W. Tooze
