The Kino transfer is based on the 1983/84 German Bundesarchiv-Filmarchiv restoration print that was composed from 3 sources. While the first scene is taken from an inferior 16mm print with decomposed emulsion (pic#1) the rest - apart from the intertitles - is taken from an excellent 35mm nitrate print with very good picture detail and correct color tinting. This is the best transfer in spite of moderate amount of speckling, frame jitters, dust and other minor flaws. The (scrolling) english intertitles come very close to the original german presentation (pic#8, this is not an intertitle but a demonstration of how well english text was integrated).

The Eureka transfer is based on an early Russian 35mm duplicate print (as is the US transfer from Image Entertainment - not tested here) with very good picture detail, but it is zoomed in (pic#3), shows a horizontal frame line (due to frame misalignment in the film lab, pic#7) and the tinting does not represent the original colors (pic#9). This version features (static) english intertitles which cannot compete with Kino's efforts.

The Ciné-Club transfer (based on the films sans frontiéres print) is the least satisfying presentation of the film with little picture detail (pic#6) and a heavily cropped picture to cut off the frame line (pic#5). It features the original german intertitles (subtitled in french). All three transfers exhibit combing artefacts with a WEAVE deinterlacer in use.
