The Laser Paradise transfer's problems strike the eye and need not be discussed explicitly. The new Anchor Bay transfer (25th Anniversary Edition), taken from a new high definition master, sports good detail resolution and contrast balance. The 1999 transfer is not quite as clean, somewhat softer and grainier and its aspect ratio of ~2,30:1 is not as faithful to the theatrical projection as the new transfer. (Only) the 1999 transfer was supervised by director of photography Dean Cundey and features the original color palette, with stronger orange (pic#3) and blue (pic#4) hues. These tones were not restored in the new transfer, thus missing the stylized look of the original presentation but displaying more natural colors. The Marketing transfer retains the original color palette and boasts the most detailed picture of all releases (sign "Haddonfield" and scenery in background; pic#3). While the US transfers suffer from slight edge enhancement (sign in pic#3) the Marketing transfer is practically devoid of these (and other) problems.
