Sadly, there are no good Dune transfers available on DVD yet. The non anamorphic Astro/Laser Paradise version with low colors saturation and contrast level, frequent dropouts, smearing and video noise is disappointing. Beware of the anamorphic Paradise Edition with its faded colors (note the white dunes, pic#5), excessive contrast level and hazy picture (pic#4). And: This version is cut. The anamorphic versions from Sanctuary and Marketing are superior efforts, but still wanting with compression artefacts aplenty, especially blocking (see pic#1 for an example on the Sanctuary DVD), color banding and occasional background flicker. While the Marketing disk suffers from the same blemishes and print damages as the Astro/LP version (pic#5), the cleaned up Sanctuary transfer displays horizontal distortion lines (pic#1). The Marketing DVD offers slightly better detail resolution (pic#3).
