All transfers were mastered from clean source material, with very good contrast level and coloring. Due to lower bitrate the PAL transfer show compression artefacts, especially block artefacts (EiV pic#4: background on Snipes' left; Warner pic#5: soil to the van's right) which softens out details more than their US counterpart. The detail level of the PAL transfers varies. Sometimes the German transfer ist softer (pic#2, background detail resolution) sometimes the UK is lacking definition (face details in pic#3). The US transfer is not completely devoid of artefacting either (pic#2, background). But the New Line transfer offers higher detail resolution (pic#3) and cleaner compression. Vertical detail resolution is occasionally better in the PAL transfer (see the fine structure of the grating on the car top in pic#5). Edge enhancement is present in both transfers (note the tiles in pic#1).
