Just like all previous home video releases of Station West, the made-on-demand disc from Warner Archive comes from an edited theatrical reissue. The cuts were made directly to the nitrate camera negative and Warner's attempts to locate the original release version were unsuccessful to date. (The film was cut from 8286 ft to 7125 ft, according to RKO’s master records) The new progressive transfer may seem a little soft in captures below, but it is miles above all previous home video releases, including French DVD compared here. The frame looses just a sliver of information on the top, but opens up the remaining 3 sides. Gone is a tinted haze and chroma evident in previous interlaced transfer. The blacks are deep and the damage is minimal. There were a few shots with noticeably different contrast during a heist scene. The mono soundtrack is adequate and without any distortions and per usual standard for the Warner Archive, there are no subtitles or captions. A stellar western noir that deserves rediscovery and this Warner Archive release is a good presentation. Hopefully, one of these days, the complete version is discovered.
