(aka "Kimi ga wakamono nara" or "If You Were Young: Rage" or "Our Dear Buddies" )

directed by Kinji Fukasaku
Japan 1970

With the same visual flare used in his distinctive yakuza films, director Kinji Fukasaku (The Yakuza Papers) tells the riveting story of five kids who come to Tokyo for work in If You Were Young: Rage.

In the 1960s, Japanese teens were often sent from rural areas to Tokyo and other major cities, helping to fuel Japan’s rapid economic development. Fukasaku shows the shocking consequences for idealistic youths whose dreams are soon torn apart in a chaos of class turmoil and youthful indiscretion.

Comments:

The image quality is slightly faded but still maintains a degree of sharpness. I noticed clipping as well. the subs are excellent and overall the anamorphic image is acceptable - not a lot of damage. This is probably the best you will ever see this relatively obscure film, so I am thankful for Home Vision for doing it some justice - still this is not a film worthy of spending lavish amounts to improve it. A solid effort with a director interview as an Extra.     out of
