(aka "Horns and Haloes")

directed by Michael Galinsky and Suki Hawley
USA 2002

HORNS AND HALOS looks back at the 2000 Presidential election when George W. Bush managed, with mysterious ease, to dodge allegations of cocaine possession, a history of failed business management and neglect of military duty. All these accusations were originally brought to light with the book: Fortunate Son, published by St. Martin's Press. The Bush campaign handily managed to discredit the author and by extension the book when shocking allegations about the author himself, James Hatfield, conveniently came to light. Faced with mounting pressure from the Bush army of lawyers, St. Martin's Press halted and recalled 'Fortunate Son', even as it was on the amazon.com top 10 bestseller list. HORNS AND HALOS chronicles the incredible true story of Sander Hicks, a 29 year old self-styled punk publisher/janitor, as he attempts to bring the book back to the American conscience at all costs - to electrifying consequence.

Comments:

I'm excited about MICROFILMS - a new production company that has limitless potential. 'Horns and Halos' is a prime example of the type of interesting thought-provoking material that they seemed destined to explore. They obviously know how to make a DVD. Although the image is not of Criterion quality and is only single layered, it IS anamorphic and brimming with Extra Features including a director commentary. There is a slight greenish tinge to the picture quality , but regardless this is all secondary to the documentary content. The 2.0 audio is clear, if quiet and the packaging is first rate with 12 pages of liner notes to augment the 2nd disc of Extra Features of added interviews and related clips. Super animated menus too! This is great news to see a company like this and I look for ward to witnessing their evolution. This DVD has it all  out of
