Comments:

OTE: An article appeared in the Sunday Arts and Leisure section of the New York Times regarding redoing the Godfather DVDs in Region 1. It is not yet on the web site. Mr. Robert Harris of DVDBeaver ListServ appears to be a major source for the article. An unnamed “archivist” criticizes Paramount for mishandling the elements for The Godfather and Godfather Two. Paramount says that new discs will be coming out, enhanced by Lowry Digital Images.

I don't see too significant a difference here excepting a little greenish tinge on the Region 2 and that the Region 1 is marginally sharper. The Region 2 also has PAL speedup and subtitle options in multiple languages. these differences wouldn't make or break the boxset for me, but overall I would chose the Region 1 for all the stated reason of the individual comparisons.
