Comments:

According to Glenn Mitchell's 'The Laurel & Hardy Encyclopedia' there are 2 original 35mm prints of this silent movie; one for the US and one overseas, each taken from separate camera with the result of minor differences in angles and points of details. We can't tell which versions that have been used for the DVD releases or if there is used materials from both versions. We are also in doubt about it's the original titling that is used - if somebody can come with further information please inform us. The new Image DVD and the Hal Roach releases are from the same source with some improvement in picture quality on the Image, but we find the Kinowelt has the best picture quality, not so dark as the others and a little more detailed. But overall this 75 year old movie looks stunning on all 3 releases and if you are new to old slapstick movies the Image might be a good choice with the 3 other great classics that is included. Only the Hal Roach have the original Vitaphone soundtrack, but both the newly recorded music by The Alloy Orchestra on the Image and the organ music on the Kinowelt sounds and is great. Bram Blijleven & Ole Kofoed
